Stag Unassisted 3.0: A One Woman Solo Show

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Stag Unassisted 3.0 performance by Taryn Packheiser at The Community Arts Center in Homewood, AL

Taryn Packheiser’s one woman show consists of mixed genres of choreography, performance art, and video installation alongside an eclectic blend of music which facilitates a query into the manifold modalities of surviving in a world alone. Ranging from mainstream to avant-garde, with an emphasis on human relationships and nostalgic desires, this “solo of solos” diversely reflects on the nature of being Stag Unassisted. Packheiser describes the show as "Choreographic research on the nature of oneness (with diet cola)." Stag Unassisted was first performed in the 2011 Greensboro Fringe Festival in North Carolina. This reworked 3.0 version will make its premier in Alabama.

Birmingham, AL, January 15, 2012-

Stag Unassisted 3.0 is a solo dance, performance art, screen dance production that puts the work of Taryn Packheiser all in one accessible place within the duration of one hour. Through interconnected vignettes of choreography that span the past 14 years of Taryn’s career one can get a sense of the training and range of mixed genre that she has been both interested in and produced in her time since finishing her formal education at UNCSA and CU Boulder.

The performance includes pieces choreographed to Mozart and Strauss, musical works “donated” to the choreographer from musician friends, and audio created, manipulated (and sometimes rapped) by the dancer herself.

Additional multimedia components include video pieces in between, and in conjunction with, the live performance. The videos highlight work that has been screened at film festivals across the United States (most notably the San Souci Festival of Dance Cinema in Boulder, CO and Pixilerations produced by FirstWorks in Providence, RI).

The performances will take place on Saturday, February 18th at 7pm and Sunday, February 19th at 2pm. Tickets are $10 and available at the door beginning one hour prior to each performance. It is encouraged for patrons to purchase their tickets online prior to the event at https:// www.brownpapertickets.com/event/220092. Audience members are encouraged to arrive early to peruse Packheiser’s visual art (some of which will be available for purchase) in the lobby of the theater.

The Community Arts Center (home of Children’s Dance Foundation) is located at 1715 27th Court South in Homewood, AL 35209. Parking will be available on the north and east sides of the building.

In Shake Your Rump (Solo Style) Taryn raps all three of the Beastie Boys lyrics.  She also simultaneoulsy dances various hip hop routines that she has performed throughout her career.

Fall of the Apple is choreographed to Mozart's Piano Concerto #23 in A Major.  This adagio is filled with contrasting gravitational sweeps and stillness.  This is the oldest individual piece in the show and was originally choreographed in the late 1990's.

Complete with video projection, a Shakespeare monologue, audio collages, and an original fairy tale, Constant Symptom Control explores the ways in which people ignore the roots of problems, but instead try to mask the imperfections on a superficial level.  It is a love story of obsessions.

The lyrics from Joni Mitchell's "Song for Sharon" were the inspiration for Avow.  The piece combines classical Modern Technique, Sign Language, and flower props in a simple and sweet reflection on both literal and abstract commitments to love.
